I've been asked to do a multi-layer stencil of Peterborough and after tinkering with a few photos I've decided this is the one to do. I like how it covers all aspects of the city from the office blocks to the CCTV camera and all that's inbetween. It'll be a complex job but I'm looking forward to doing it.
This is a preview I've knocked together in Photoshop of how it will look. Next step is to separate the layers and print them off.

It's been a while since I've done anything (to do with art). So here is a Thom Yorke commission I've just finished for a flickr friend...
I might just be in the mood to start cutting some new stencils tonight...
The art exhibition has made it into another publication. This time it's Peterboroughs Key Times distributed with the Evening Telegraph.

The Young Carers art exhibition at Morley Court closed today with several pieces sold throughout and a burst of activity on the final day. Special thanks have to go out to all the artists that donated and everyone who came to have a look at the work on display.
It's now time to look forward to the first Young Carers art exhibition open to the general public. This event will be happening at the Peterborough Key Theatre from the 25th August and last for 2 weeks. The preview night on the 24th August is invitation only and will feature complimentary wine and nibbles as well as first opportunity to select your favourite piece of art. If you'd like to attend please get in touch as numbers are limited.

Gareth Buxton - Landscape Art
I am an established professional artist with paintings in many collections throughout the uk. For me painting is a process of filtering and interpretation, I never paint a scene as-it-is and literal copying of the landscape in-situ or working from photographs just doesn't work for me. Each painting is a unique snapshot and emotional representation of me at the time its created.

We are proud to announce the inaugural Ely International Open Art Competition 2009. Visual contemporary Artists from around the world, working in any medium, are invited to submit their entries for an exhibition to be held in The Long Gallery at The Old Palace in the beautiful and historic city of Ely, in Cambridgeshire. The competition will culminate in a fund-raising launch party and selling exhibition in November 2009. A commission of 25% will be placed on all sales from the exhibition, all of which will be donated to Sue Ryder Care.| Reactions: |
Gareth Buxton will be putting on his largest exhibition to date the beautiful Ingleby Gallery in June. Months of work will be culminating in an exhibition of over 25 paintings at the gallery from the 14th June. The majority of the show will feature acrylics on box canvas with a small selection of limited edition prints.

His dramatic landscapes and seascapes are inspired by places, memories and emotions. He finds more beauty in a dark rainy sea than in a glorious sunset. Many of his paintings show a battle between darkness and light, and this interplay creates a mood of tension and drama in his work.
“Elements like the wind, rain, dark skies, the moon and the light bursting through the clouds that stimulate me profoundly. Landscape painting for me goes beyond literal representation of the land: it’s as much about representing me and my state of mind.”

We installed the new solo exhibition by John Lyons this morning at Needhams Restaurant & Art Gallery in Witchford, Cambridgeshire. The exhibition is called 'Chimera: Myth & Colour' and marks the first solo exhibition of his work since his exhibition at Three Cups Gallery in Ely in 2005.
The exhibition will be on display at the restaurant until 25th June. Many thanks to John (pictured below) and his lovely wife Jean for their assistance during the install!

The Finalist's Exhibition for the Needhams Open Art Competition 2009 finished yesterday. We received a good deal of feedback regarding the featured work from visitors to the building- Andrea Rowbotham's large paintings in the Lounge Bar were very popular with guests apparently.

Needhams Restaurant & Art Gallery proudly presents 'Chimera', a colourful solo exhibition: a fusion of imagery inspired by Caribbean mythology by the accomplished Artist: "When you consider one of John's paintings, you are intrigued and repelled in equal measure, as you are forced to acknowledge your own unique reaction to such powerful imagery."
The Caribbean-born Artist John Lyons often relies upon the rich vernacular folklore and mythology of his homeland to conjure up images of such immense power that you can hardly take your eyes off them. Lyons describes his work as an 'ambivalent pleasure' and a 'playful dialogue' but they are much more than that. Intuitive and breathtaking, courageous and disturbing- when you consider a painting such as 'Birth Of Soucoyant' or 'Folklore Convention' you are intrigued and repelled in equal measure, as you are forced to acknowledge your own unique reaction to such powerful imagery.
An Artist with an incredible career behind him, Lyons has considerable achievements in visual arts, curating, poetry, teaching, adjudication and he was even a Purchaser for the Arts Council National Collection in the eighties. He co-founded the Hourglass Studio Gallery in Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire and remains a board member to this day. He is also one of three judges for the inaugural Needhams Open Art Competition 2009. | Reactions: |

Barbara J. Lloyd primarily uses photography, digital processes and collage techniques to create wonderfully colourful, atmospheric and often humorous images filled with whimsy, mystery and an intriguing surrealism.
She says, "Art opens a window into my mind, allowing pieces of my subconscious to escape onto the canvas, paper or whatever substrate I'm using to capture the elusive bits. It's the ordinary, utilitarian elements of life that inspire and challenge me to present them in a new and, hopefully, exciting way. If my art engages the viewer in a satisfying dialogue, I consider it a success”
Born in New Jersey, USA, Lloyd graduated from Kean University of New Jersey with a Fine Arts degree. A former art teacher and album cover designer, she now lives in Danbury, Connecticut and became a full-time artist sometime ago. Her artwork is currently being exhibited in the Upstream People Gallery, the American Juried Art Salon, and the Artist's Haven Gallery. She has just received a Special Recognition for two of her artworks in the Upstream People Gallery Juried Competition and her body of work was recently recognized by Mosaic Globe with a cash award.| Reactions: |

These are the huge but very beautiful abstract paintings by Andrea Rowbotham that we failed to get to Needhams yesterday! 'Reaching Summit' and 'Summit Experience' are now safely installed in the Lounge Bar of the restaurant where all the guests and diners are welcomed with drinks and menus before being shown to their tables.| Reactions: |
Janine Baxter coordinator of the project said “We have carried out a survey of young carers to find out what they want. It takes a great deal of courage for a Young Carer to identify themselves because they fear that if they ask for help their family will be broken up. We found that there was one major demand the children had. They want a childhood. We are going to use the survey to challenge every school, social worker, doctor, in the city to help them enjoy their youth.”
This is a call for artists to help support the young carers charity.

The Finalists Exhibition for the Needhams Open Art Competition 2009 was installed this morning (mostly!). It went reasonably well apart from the fact that we couldn't get two paintings by Andrea Rowbotham to the restaurant as they were too large to get in our car (a large SUV). We've arranged alternative transport for tomorrow and will post photographs tomorrow afternoon.
You can hardly tell from these photos just how beautifully tactile this painting is. It's an abstract painting in the usual sense of the word but the materials Nash uses add an interesting dimension to his work- it's cold to the touch (which is odd) and the contrast between the flat matt of the white areas and the high gloss of the colours is very strong. The colours almost jump off the canvas. Congratulations to Nash Francis- the first Winner of the Needhams Open Art Competition 2009!
The piece on the left is called 'Blue Dream' by Daniel Young- it got the second highest number of points from the judges in the competition and is, therefore, our second place entry! Well done Daniel!
2nd place painting 'Blue Dream' by Daniel Young.
These two charming little prints are from Ami Shin. The bottom one is called 'This Is My Pet 3' and we love it.
A photograph called 'Untitled 2' by Donna Carter from Northampton, hanging in the brasserie dining room.
'Land & Sea' by Christopher Lessware in the main dining room.
'Broken Image' by Daniel Young with 'Untitled 7' by Nash Francis in the background.
This is a fantastic & diverse exhibition of paintings, illustration, prints and photography by new and emerging artists from around the UK. It will look even better tomorrow when we get to hang the two selected paintings from Andrea Rowbotham!

Jeremy has been one of our top selling Artists since we first started trawling the art fairs back in the day and we are very excited to be able to offer great value open edition prints at last! Our suppliers use high quality canvas, an Epson printer and Epson pigment inks to ensure a quality product that will look great and last for many years. All our deep-edge canvas prints have a water-based clear lacquer applied to them as a UV barrier and to protect the canvas prints from scuffing. It also makes them easier to clean! All canvas prints are stretched over a sturdy, hardwood frame, Eucalyptus Regnans to be exact. | Reactions: |

We are now offering framed and mounted prints and stretched-canvas prints in a variety of sizes from several of our artists at the Emporium on-line boutique gallery. Look at these fantastic new photographs from OC Artist Jo Tammaro of Margate Harbour and Lighthouse. Don't they look beautiful in these wonderful frames?
Our fine art prints come with a beautifully-crafted, charcoal coloured custom frame made with quality timbers 3cm wide by 2cm deep. A mount (minimum of 6cm wide) surrounds the print to emphasize the artist’s work and bring the piece to life. Premium ultra-clear perspex provides a superior finish and means the piece is lighter and easier for you to move without breaking. | Reactions: |

New forms of fictionDreaming Methods, known also as Digital Fiction, evolved from obscure, floppy disk-based collections of short stories that were available for free in the Amiga Public Domain during mid 1990s. It is now an experimental venture into combining fictional narratives with atmospheric multimedia designed to be read and experienced on-screen.
Dreaming Methods is inspired largely by abstract concepts that would perhaps be difficult to capture using writing alone. The multi-layered complexity of dreams/nightmares and real/imagined memories that feature in many of the narratives are represented by a heavy mix of media that is designed to be compulsive and immersive. Projects are inspired by music, film and web design as much as literature, and attempt to take strands of each and weave them into something entirely new.
Dreaming Methods is however experimental. Our plan is to continue to attempt to produce challenging hybrid fiction projects that push the boundaries of digital writing.

In a medieval long-house in Llanelltyd, North Wales, surrounded by mountains, lakes and rivers, and also very near to the sea, is the studio of a highly-rated Artist called Sonja Benskin Mesher. Sonja has lived in this spectacularly beautiful part of the world for more than 15 years now and the ancient landscape has been affecting her work profoundly ever since. The sense of freedom, peace and sheer space of the environment has given Sonja's work an almost inherent, sensual, rhythmic quality. She uses a dialogue of shape and colour to create ideas about the landscape and inherent memory.
She is well known for her prize winning sketches as much as for her abstract work. She says, “I like to draw. I like the immediacy and physical connection I get with the media. I like the memories that form themselves on the paper. I like the marks, and patterns. In quieter moments, the drawing work occurs, reflecting on life, remembering childhood, and unravelling problems.” Many of her sketches have been submitted in our 'SELF:' competition for self-portraits. Needhams Restaurant & Art Gallery proudly presents a solo exhibition of abstract paintings by the Cambridgeshire-based Artist:
Kerrecoes' work, frequently abstract, invariably focuses on the concept of identity. He seems driven by a desire to understand who he is and what makes him that person. Is he little more than a machine, programmed to function in an extremely specific way? Is his identity just an elaborate illusion, the result of billions of chemical reactions?
'The Code' series of paintings, started in 2004 and first shown at Needhams in October 2005, uses a complex language of abstract colour and pattern, designed to convey Kerrecoe's internal conflict to balance his genetically produced instincts with his sense of 'free-will'. He collaborated with OC Artist Esther Appleyard BA (Hons) on a joint project based on 'The Code' series, entitled 'A Series Of Lines' which was shown at Three Cups Gallery in Ely during 2007 and then at Worcester City Art Gallery in April/May 2008.
He exhibited in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, by invitation from Atelier EAST, with a solo installation of his work for the month of August 2007 at the Angles Theatre which was reviewed in the August 2007 Edition of Art & Soul Magazine by Curator Karen Harvey. 'Within The Weave', the short film by Craig & Esther, made to accompany their joint exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery, was selected for the international Streaming Festival based in The Hague in October 2008.| Reactions: |
